Forefathers Cabernet Sauvignon is grown on a 5.5 acre vineyard on a small knoll in the Alexander Valley. We selected the east facing slope to avoid the hot afternoon temperatures that can lead to dehydration and elevated sugars. This knoll is east of the town of Geyserville and is comprised of a gravelly loam soil, which allows for good drainage, great exposure of the clusters due to the open canopy and long hang time. We get more power & weight from Lone Tree than the typical Alexander Valley Cab vineyard.
2016 Cabernet Sauvignon
Lone Tree, Alexander Valley
Tasting Note: The dry farming means small berries and high skin-to- pulp ratio. As a result Forefathers is a refined and elegant wine capturing the best of what Alexander Valley offers. Deep purple with aromas of red cherry and vanilla. The mouth has very lush black plum fruit. This balanced Bordeaux style wine (lower alcohol and great structure) coats the palate in velvety rich flavors. The tannins are supple and last forever.
Tasting Note: Ripe blackberry and black cherry fruit aromas, pronounced French oak; juicy red and black fruit on the palate with blackberry, blueberry, cassis, and dark chocolate flavors; smooth and supple tannins, expansive mouthfeel, toasty oak finish.
